One Woman Farm CSA

Spring will soon be here, so it is once again time to sign up for the One Woman Farm Community Supported Agriculture program. Founded in 2008 on 5 acres by Margaret Schlass, this certified naturally-grown produce farm now cultivates 18+ acres and produces over 50 varieties of vegetables for its community of customers in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Pick up will be at GPC on Thursdays from mid-June to mid-November for a total of 23 weeks. The cost for the weekly share is $550 (about $25 per week) and $325 (about $28 per week) for the bi-weekly share. Each share provides about 10 different items of produce each week. If that is too much for your family, shares may be split. Ask a friend to split a weekly or bi-weekly share with you.

In addition to produce, the One Woman Farm also offers organic Fair Trade Coffee. This program is separate from the CSA share. The One Woman Farm is working with Building New Hope, a non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh that partners with a worker-owned coffee cooperative in Nicaragua and markets their fairly traded organic coffee in the U.S. This is a bi-weekly (12 weeks) program. You would receive one pound of coffee every other week. If that is too much, you may also split a share with another person.

We are also looking for volunteers to be present during pickup each Thursday from 3:30 – 6:00. You do not have to purchase either program in order to be a volunteer.

If you are interested in purchasing shares in either or both programs, or in volunteering to help, please fill out the sign-up form and drop it in Beth Egan's mailbox at church.
